Using a system of motion sensors, door sensors, the internet and/or text messaging tied to a web application, you are able to create a “care network” of family members, caregivers, friends, and neighbors to monitor and report activity in the loved one’s home. CloseBy Network notifies specified people in your care network when the system detects changes in normal behavior. You can also check in on demand to see if your loved one gets in and out of bed as expected, opens the refrigerator to eat, takes his or her medications, or leaves the house. CloseBy Network lets the elderly and disabled continue to live safely and independently in the comfort of their own homes. And it gives caregivers peace of mind, whether they are across the street or across the country.
CloseBy Network allows you to establish groups of people to support your loved one and alleviate your worries by letting you know everything is okay in your loved one’s home—without compromising their privacy. You control activity notification, including when, what, and how (e.g., a text message, an email, or by logging onto a secure website and viewing a history of the day’s events). This guide will help you understand how to get the most out of your CloseBy Network.
The CloseBy System, the Database, and the manner in which the CloseBy System and the Database interrelate and operate were designed to be used, and are intended for use, solely as a system to collect and disseminate non-life-critical data and information. None of the CloseBy System, the Database, or the manner in which the CloseBy System and the Database interrelate or operate, were designed to be used, and are NOT intended for use, as a security system or as a life, health or emergency monitoring system.
The CloseBy Network relies on a system of sensors to provide information regarding the activity level of your loved one. A basic set up consists of the following products: CloseBy Network web application, a Control4 Home Controller HC-200, four Card Access Micro Contact Sensors, three Card Access Wireless Motion Sensors, a chair occupancy sensor, a bed occupancy sensor, a multi-purpose contact/temperature sensor, a sensor bridge, and a “Contact Me” button.
The sensors can be set up to communicate a variety of events, alerting you if your loved one is up and moving about in the morning, if medicine cabinets are opened for them to take their medications, if exterior doors are opened, or even if the refrigerator has been opened that day. A secure server takes the information in, analyzes and filters the data, then sends notifications to the caretaker via text messaging, e-mail and/or through a secure web site. The following diagram shows the CloseBy Network web application and specifies the areas that we will discuss throughout this user guide:
The following chapters of this user guide describe the CloseBy web application, reviewing the features and functionality of its operation menu item by menu item. We’ll start by describing the home page, sensor status, and sequence of events tabs. Then, we’ll go through each menu item. Additional sections will be discussed in more detail separately that we’ll refer to as we review the menu items.
